The reviews to Aishwarya Rai's 'Mistress of Spices' have been disastrous to say the least and the box-office hasn't said much either. Sadly, the film hasn't been able to do much for Miss Rai's international career that's been waiting to take off for a long time now.

The former beauty queen refused to be a part of any pre-release publicity of the film and failed to attend the film's low-key premiere in Mumbai recently.

What remains to be seen is what impact the failure of 'Mistress of Spices' will have on Jagmohan Mundhra's delayed 'Provoked' (also starring Aishwarya Rai) that has been looking for a buyer for a while now.

'Provoked' will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the hope that a responsible distributor picks up the title and gives it a good enough release. Ash and Nandita Das are expected to attend the screening at Cannes.

Is it the stereotypes – exotic India in the strands of saffron, the yellow hues of turmeric or the fiery bite of a chilli? Is it Aishwarya Rai – pensively simpering, beseeching 'her' spices to 'talk'? A court in Madurai has issued warrants against the Bollywood actors for obscenely posing in photographs for a Tamil evening newspaper, Tamil Marasu. The court has also issued a non-bailable warrant against the editor of the newspaper, Murugan.

Earlier on February 15, Judicial Magistrate II Seetharaman had issued summons to the actors and the editor based on a petition filed by T Dhakshinamoorthy, an advocate.

The Judge had earlier ordered them to appear on March 10. But the Sen and Shetty didn’t bother to budge. The summonses were also published in newspapers in Hindi and English, but the actors failed to appear in the court.

The petitioner had submitted before the court that the paper had had carried 'sexy blow ups' and 'medium posters' in Tamil Marasu’s issues for seven days in December, 2005 and January, 2006.
This has violated Section 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of women (prohibition) Act and Sec 3 of Young persons Harmful Publications Act and IPC sec 292 (Sale of Obscene books), the petition said.
Apart from 'misleading the youth, the pictures would also increase violence against women', the petition added."
